The Department of Economics is one of the important subjects at F.A. Ahmed College, Garoiamri. The subject was introduced in the year 1992 since the establishment of the College. The Department of Economics was initiated by Abul Baki, (M. Com) later on, he left the College and Md. Jamir Uddin Ahmed (HoD) joined as lecturer who was appointed and has been imparting his service since 1st July/1997. Mr Ayan Ali Ahmed is another faculty in the department joined on 18th August/1998. However, Dr. M. Seik Mozibar Rahman is the third faculty joined the College on 16th June/2006. Major course in Economics was introduced in the session 1998-99 with due permission of Gauhati University.

The department of economics always encourages students into innovative activities. Initially, the department was to suffer from the shortage of the students. Due to the pertinent effort of the faculty members, students are gradually increasing in the department. The students of the department are encouraged to departmental tour, departmental journey, participation in the outreach activity of NSS, Scout & Guide cell etc. The department organizes departmental seminar in each semester, students are instructed and guided to prepare seminar on the basis of field survey that inculcates them a preliminary knowledge of research. The department has certain shortcoming which are to be met immediately.
