The Department of Assamese (MIL) and ASL as a subject was introduced in 1992 in the TDC (B.A.) level. Permission of Major Course in Assamese was accorded in the year 1997-98 and Elective Assamese in the year 2000-2001 by the Gauhati University.

    Dost Habibur Rahman (now Head Master of Goroimari Anchalik Girls High School) Mr. Sahab Khan and Mr. Sarifuzzaman (now Assistant Professor of Jaleswar College) were the founder teacher of the Department. Mr. Abdul Alim joined as lecturer in the Department on 23rd Feb/ 1996. Mr Nasir Uddin Ahmed is another faculty joined the College on 16th July/1996. Mrs. Manju Ahmed is another faculty of the Department joined on 2nd December/ 1996. Dr. Abdul Jalil is the fourth faculty in the Department and joined in the College on 16th June/ 2006. Dr. Abdul Jalil was demised in an unexpected car/railway accident in the year 2020. Since then, the post of Dr. Abdul Jalil is laying vacant in the Department. Mr. Abdul Alim was the HoD from his joining and Mr. Nasir Uddin Ahmed took the charge on 20th December/ 2022 as HoD in the Department.
